In 1974, Kent Field Club held a symposium on the then Hothfield Local Nature Reserve. This dealt with the site's history, geology, soils, biology and conservation management, and resulted in a series of papers which formed Volume 5, part 3 of the Transactions of the Kent Field Club, published in 1975.

This year the aim of the conference will be to look at the current status of the flora and fauna of north-west Kent.
