Sandwich Bay for a joint recording meeting with Shoresearch.  A stroll along the strandline to investigate the variety of shells and other flotsam. This will be followed by an indoor session using KWT’s mollusc reference collection to help identify finds.

Cromers wood, Kent Wildlife Trust reserve, near Sittingbourne, for fungi and general recording. 

Meet at TQ906604, keep left along the access track to reach a small area for parking outside the entrance gate to the wood.  The access track is off Broadoak Road, signposted for Shooting Box Day Nursery.  Leader: David Perrin.

Mereworth Woods for fungi and general recording.  We have special permission from the MoD to visit the restricted area of Mereworth woods.

Bredhurst wood for fungi and general recording.  We have kind permission from Bredhurst Action Group to visit this woodland and meadow site.

Longbeech wood, near Charing, for fungi and general recording.

Meet at TQ980509, the first gateway on the left along Monkery Lane, accessed from Faversham Road.  Martin may redirect you on the day to parking further inside the wood for better access to fungi recording areas.

Chatham Thunderbolt Pier for a joint recording meeting with Shoresearch.  A chance to investigate life on the floating pontoons on the Medway.

Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory for bird ringing session where we hope to see a good mix of migrants. After lunch, we will walk to the hide overlooking the SBBO scrape to look at waders and then around the Sandwich Bay Estate, beach and golf courses for birds and general recording.  

Meet at TR354574, from 8.00 am onwards for bird ringing session. 

Parking in the SBBO car park, NB. Toll charge is £1 if parking at SBBO.

Mill Farm on the Lesser Teise, Marden for general interest (and Small Teasel). The farmer is working to improve condition of a good variety of habitats for birds and insects.

Meet at TQ734456, Mill farm (TN12 9QX) on the south side of Hunton Road. Drive through metal gate into farm yard/car workshop, keep left over the river bridge, following track southwards for about a hundred yards.

Shakespeare East for a joint recording meeting with Shoresearch.  A survey of the boulders and chalk platform on the eastern side of Shakespeare Cliff just below the train tunnel entrance.

Hacklinge Marshes, near Sandwich for joint meeting with Kent Botanical Recording Group to search for Blysmus compressus (Flat-sedge) and other fenland plants.

Meet at 10.00 am at TR342541, in the car park of the Adelaide Farm café, on east side of the A258, Deal to Sandwich Road.

The Three Millennial Woods, Sheppey for invertebrates and general interest. These newly-created woodlands, each compositionally quite different, have almost doubled the area of woodland on the island and it will be interesting to discover which species have colonised them. Literally, ecologically, islands within islands within islands.

Meet at TQ946720 in the Thistle Hill Community Wood car park (ME12 3GP) on Thistle Hill Way, Minster, just off the Lower Road to Eastchurch.

Tutt Hill area near Hothfield for joint meeting with Kent Botanical Recording Group. An area of arable fields, grassland and lanes on Folkestone sand with a history of notable arable weeds.  

Meet at 10.00am at TQ970464 in a layby on north side of the A20 outside Hothfield car sales.
